TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Attendance is free for Individual Members and Corporate Members of AIPPI Singapore Group (for up to 3 participants per Corporate Member).
2. Please note: A participant must be an Advocate & Solicitor in Singapore, a foreign lawyer registered under section 36B of the Legal Profession Act, a registered patent agent in Singapore, an IP professional practising IP in Singapore, or a trainee of any of the aforesaid.
3. The registration fee for 4th and additional participants of AIPPI Corporate Members and nonmembers is S$250 per participant.

6. As capacity is limited, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

SPEAKERS’ PROFILES
Kuah Boon Theng SC
Managing Director, Legal Clinic LLC
Boon Theng is the Managing Director of Legal Clinic LLC. Appointed Senior Counsel in January 2018, her experience spans the full spectrum of legal work in the healthcare industry, from advising healthcare institutions and professionals, their insurers and professional indemnity providers, and representing clients in mediation and legal proceedings. She also serves on various hospital committees. She has received recognition for her volunteer work on the National Cancer Centre Medifund Committee, and sits on the Medifund Advisory Council, the Ren Ci Medifund Committee and the Central Medifund Committee. She is also a Board member of Assisi Hospice. Boon Theng is the Honorary Legal Advisor to the Singapore Medical Association, the Academy of Medicine as well as the Singapore Dental Association. She is co-faculty coordinator of the Medical Expert Witness Training course, a joint collaboration between the Academy of Medicine Singapore, Singapore Medical Association, Singapore Academy of Law and the Law Society of Singapore. She also serves on the Board of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
Boon Theng was an Exco member of the Law Society from 2012 to 2017 and served as its Vice President in 2016 and 2017. She is currently the Deputy President of the Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents and the Chair of the Safe Sport Disciplinary Panel.
Topic: Perspectives on the Mentor’s Role and Strategies for Fostering Successful Mentoring Relationships
An exploration on how mentorship can be a powerful force for one’s development in the legal profession. Ms Kuah Boon Theng SC, a prominent friend at the Bar, will share her views on the mentor’s role and her views on how successful mentoring relationships may be cultivated.
Outline of the Talk:
- What good mentorship looks like in practice—Beyond the occasional coffee catch-up: creating a safe space for constructive feedback; guiding without fostering dependency.
- The mentor’s role at different stages of career— How the support provided to a mentee can evolve, and how effective mentors adapt their approach as their mentee grows.
- Reciprocal mentorship—Recognising the two-way street of mentorship: the value and perspectives that juniors bring, and why the best mentoring relationships are ones where both parties benefit.
Professor David Tan
Co-Director, Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law; Head (Intellectual Property), EW Barker Centre for Law & Business,
NUS Law Professor David Tan is presently Co-Director of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law and Head (Intellectual Property) of the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business at NUS Law. He served as Vice Dean (Academic Affairs) at NUS Law from January 2015 to June 2021 where he had oversight of the undergraduate and postgraduate coursework curriculum. David holds PhD, LLB (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Melbourne and an LLM from Harvard. He was also appointed a Professorial Fellow of the AGC-Legal Service Academy in 2024.
At NUS Law, David pioneered courses in Entertainment Law, Fashion Law, Freedom of Speech and Privacy & Data Protection Law; he has also taught as a visitor at Melbourne Law School, Tsinghua, Tokyo (Todai) and University of Hong Kong. His areas of research cover personality rights, copyright, trademarks, freedom of expression and tort law. He has published over 100 articles, comments, and book chapters since joining NUS Law in 2008. His publications have appeared in a wide range of journals that include Yale Journal of International Law, Harvard Journal of Sports & Entertainment Law, Law Quarterly Review, Australian Intellectual Property Journal, Media & Arts Law Review and Singapore Academy of Law Journal.

According to the 2026 Global Toy Report by Circana, the global toys industry garnered US$123 billion in annual sales, growing 8% in 2025. Online games are also generating significant revenues, with Fortnite reaching approximately 110 million monthly active players in early 2026, generating an estimated US$6 billion in annual revenue while sitting on a lifetime player base of over 650 million registered accounts. This seminar will cover the nature and extent of copyright protection for toys and games, drawing from a kaleidoscope of judicial decisions that span a spectrum of litigation involving Pac-Man, Tetris, Lego Minifigures, real-life Mario Kart tours, Fortnite Emotes, and the Legends of the Three Kingdoms card game.
Nicolas Konialidis is the Director (Asia) of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC). He is also the technical director of the IVSC’s Business Valuation Board. As such he has participated in updating two editions of the International Valuation Standards. He has three decades of experience in capital markets, corporate finance, and valuations. Nicolas was previously the Managing Director at a consultancy specialized in advising, valuing, and transacting in intangible assets.
Between 2010 and 2017, Nicolas was a corporate finance advisor and Investor Relations officer for corporate clients in several industries, including Renewable Energy.
From 1994 to 2010, Nicolas spent sixteen years in equity markets in Paris, London, New York, and San Francisco in an array of functions from trading to Institutional sales for firms such as SE Banken (Enskilda), Credit Agricole and Sanford C. Bernstein, a subsidiary of AllianceBernstein.
Nicolas is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA). He is an Accredited Member of the American Society of Appraisers (Business Valuation).
He has lived in Singapore since 2009.
Ian Lim is a Director at QANTM Valuations and has over 12 years of experience across business valuation, intangible asset valuation, corporate finance and financial audit. He advises companies, investors, boards and professional advisers on valuations prepared for M&A, capital raising, financial reporting, tax, disputes and strategic decision-making.
Ian was previously Head of Valuations at an international advisory firm specialising in intangible assets. He led engagements across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the USA, with a particular focus on high-growth, technology-driven and IP-intensive businesses. His experience includes business, intangible asset and intellectual property valuations, fairness opinions, purchase price allocations, impairment assessments and financial instrument valuations. He has also provided expert valuation evidence in connection with Singapore court proceedings.
Ian began his career at Ernst & Young Singapore, where he led audit engagements for publicly listed companies, multinational corporations, IPO candidates and high-growth enterprises, and supported valuation assignments for financial reporting and transaction-related purposes.
Ian is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore (CA) and holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University.
