In the evening of 19 August 2025, AIPPI Singapore gathered at the NUSS Suntec City Guild House for our 26th Annual General Meeting, bringing together over 40 attendees from Singapore’s intellectual property community for an evening of updates, discussion, and networking.
President Tony Yeo kicked off the meeting at 7pm sharp, providing updates on our local chapter’s activities and initiatives. The formal agenda covered all the essentials – approval of last year’s minutes, the President’s annual report for 2024, and review of our audited accounts for the financial year ending October 31, 2024. Members also elected two honorary auditors for the coming year.
Tony noted two very positive developments:
-the AIPPI Singapore membership has now grown to 52 in 2025 from 45 in 2024 and 34 in 2023.
-last year, the AIPPI Congress in Hangzhou already broke records with the largest attendees from Singapore with 25 attendees but this year’s attendees to the AIPPI World Congress is the largest ever, 43 (40 of whom are AIPPI Singapore members).
Regina Quek, our Singapore Group member and current First Deputy Secretary General of AIPPI Bureau, brought valuable updates from the international organization, keeping members informed about global developments in IP protection. A particularly proud moment for AIPPI Singapore was Tony’s announcement that Regina will be appointed Secretary General of AIPPI Bureau at the 2025 AIPPI World Congress in Yokohama. This appointment marks another significant achievement for our Singapore chapter on the international stage.
Looking ahead, Tony shared plans for another professional development seminar in January/February 2026, following the success of this year’s March event. In collaboration with APAA Singapore, the upcoming seminar will feature Professor Jeffrey Pinsler and Cheryl Seah. speaking on topics highly relevant to practitioners and one that offers CPD and MEC points for attendees. This joint initiative reflects our commitment to providing meaningful learning opportunities for members across Singapore’s IP community.
After the formal proceedings wrapped up, members enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner featuring local favorites like Hainanese chicken, coffee pork ribs, and black pepper beef, alongside international dishes and desserts. The relaxed atmosphere over dinner provided the perfect setting for members to catch up with colleagues and discuss the latest developments in IP practice.
The strong turnout and engaged participation demonstrate the continued vitality of AIPPI Singapore. With exciting developments on the horizon, including Regina’s upcoming international appointment and expanded educational programming, our chapter continues to strengthen its role in supporting IP professionals and advancing the protection of intellectual property in Singapore and beyond.
